Clarifications on critical care billing card

I wanted to clarify that the previous critical care billing card posted is a reference as a reminder that you *may* have performed critical care.  It is not an absolute "if A then B."

As per usual, your documentation must support that you spent 31 minutes or greater solely dedicated to the care of the patient and that they had a critical organ or life threat.

In reference to the previously posted critical care card, our coding support team has identified a few items that alone would not be sufficient to claim critical care:

• D50W (>1 dose)
• Glucagon
• Haldol IV or IM
• Lasix (>1 dose)
• Oxytocin
• "Use of BiPAP, CPAP, or high flow oxygen via mask"
• Bolus of 2L NS for adults or 20cc/kg for pediatric patients
• Tranfusion of blood or blood products
• Warming Blanket
• Patients who require BiPAP, CPAP, or high flow oxygen
• Patients who require endotracheal intubation with or without vent management
• Activated Charcoal
• Venemous snake bite
• Anemia with active bleeding
• Need for more than 1 IV Haldol or Ativan for agitation or violent behavior control

REMEMBER: THESE ARE ONLY REMINDERS THAT ARE HIGHLY SUGGESTIVE THAT YOU PERFORMED CRITICAL CARE.  YOUR DOCUMENTATION MUST ALSO REFLECT THAT YOU SPENT A DEDICATED >31 MINUTES SOLEY ON THE PATIENT'S CARE.
