ABEID ANSLIP
University of Connecticut Hometown: Hartford, CT
Hobbies: Anime/manga, Beyoncé trivia, and sleeping Why I chose CMC: CMC is the ultimate residency program for all things EM! There are endless opportunities for professional and personal development, welcoming people of all backgrounds, and a myriad of interests to cultivate/pursue. There's never a dull day inside or outside the department. |
NATALIE BROWN
University of North Carolina Hometown: Roanoke Rapids, NC
Hobbies: Running, going on long walks with my dog, and playing pickleball with my co-residents! Why I chose CMC: I love the welcoming supportive community that the residents and faculty create! It also is rewarding to work at an institution that offers world-class training and resources to serve such a diverse community. |
TROY CARNWATH
University of Cincinnati Hometown: Clarkston, MI
Hobbies: I enjoy learning new things, so hobbies ebb and flow, but some of the longstanding ones are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and scuba diving. I recently learned to fly fish and plan on exploring the Smokey Mountains at some point and hopefully catching something. One thing we do frequently as a class is play pickleball. Why I chose CMC: I chose CMC for a variety of reasons including world-class faculty, prodigious patient volume and diversity, a hardworking but unassuming culture, and excellent clinical training with manifold academic opportunities. I heard repeatedly about CMC's national reputation as a top program and was amazed when everyone I encountered during the interview process was kind and easy-going; the type of people I could see myself becoming friends with. |
ALYSSA CARTWRIGHT
Florida International University Hometown: Cape Coral, FL
Hobbies: Board games at breweries, perusing farmer’s markets, scream-singing karaoke, adventuring at the Whitewater Center, and snuggling my kitties Why I chose CMC: Because the vibes were immaculate. Truly, my interview day had me grinning the ENTIRE time (which can be really hard to do on Zoom)— the obvious camaraderie and love between faculty and residents was so great to witness. I knew I wanted to be in a program that prioritized social support both personally and professionally. Even now during my intern orientation month, so many residents and faculty have taken the time to check in on me to make sure I’m transitioning well and to celebrate my successes on shift! |
SCOTT DIMEO
University of Cincinnati Hometown: Lexington, KY
Hobbies: Cooking, making coffee, playing music/singing, watching college basketball (Go Cats), hiking & camping, hunting--anything that gets me outdoors with friends Why I chose CMC: The CMC EM reputation precedes itself and I didn't have to be convinced that it was a strong program, but I really got pumped to come here after meeting residents in the social. Even on Zoom, it was immediately obvious how much fun they have together, and now that I'm here I see that I could not have made a more accurate assessment. |
RACHAEL HAMM
University of North Carolina Hometown: Conover, NC
Hobbies: Running, hiking, scuba diving and traveling Why I chose CMC: During my rotation as a 4th year medical student, I was in awe by the camaraderie among residents, nursing, techs and attendings. Everyone was committed to becoming a better version of themselves each day. I sought a program that would challenge and inspire me to reach my full potential as an emergency medicine physician, and I knew CMC was the perfect place for that. |
MEG HAYSLIP
University of Alabama Hometown: Birmingham, AL

ROSIE LAWSON
Kansas City University Hometown: Sheridan, WY
Hobbies: Cooking & baking, reading, traveling, spending time outside with our two dogs, photography, listening to music Why I chose CMC: I knew I would be challenged to push myself out of my comfort zone, to learn and grow, every single day. This is truly such a kind, supportive group of people. I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to learn from our attendings and all my amazing co-residents for years to come. |
MICHAEL NEWTON
University of North Carolina Hometown: Chapel Hill, NC
Hobbies: Spending time with my Fiancé/Family/Friends, Playing basketball, surfing/being in the water, working out, cooking and finding house projects to stay busy! Why I chose CMC: I wanted to train within a program that has a diverse clinical experience. CMC is a tertiary care center with a large catchment area, but we also have a community feel. This translates to seeing a large range of patients, those who have several specialists driving their care to the classic bread and butter EM cases. The fact that CMC is a Level I Adult/Pediatric Trauma center, has increased ICU requirements for its residents and continuous pediatric EM were all highlights of the program that stood out to me in the way in the way they were implemented. Most importantly, I wanted to train within a program that was supportive of each other in and out of the hospital. Since my first rotation here, it was easy to see how well people got along and how cohesive the residents here were. I love our patients, my co-residents are inspiring, and I am excited for these next three years! |
DEEP PATEL
Western Michigan University Hometown: Charlotte, NC
Hobbies: Pickleball, volleyball, baking, watching college basketball, college football, NFL, NBA, and eating Why I chose CMC: It's close to home, opportunities for EMS and event medicine, all the residents talked about enjoying their lives outside of medicine and also having a good personal and professional relationship with attendings, ability to work in a community program with academic association and plenty of medical students to teach and learn from STEPHANIE TEELING
Medical University of South Carolina Hometown: Chicago area
Hobbies: Volleyball, pickleball, calligraphy, cooking, reading, hiking, and making new Spotify playlists Why I chose CMC: During my interview day and at the second look, I immediately felt at home here. Everyone was so humble & welcoming, yet so impressive and talented. I wanted a program that was going to prepare me for anything as well as help me develop my academic interests within EM and this is just the program for my needs! |
VICKY SOEWARNA
University of Toledo Hometown: Cleveland, OH

ARMAND TADJALI
Texas A&M Hometown: South Lake, TX
Hobbies: Weightlifting, watching movies, and soccer (favorite team is Man City!)
