We appreciate your interest in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program here at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a great starting point to find out more about both our facility and our program.
Currently, if you would like to apply for our residency program, we only accept standard electronic applications through ERAS. Please refer to the AAMC website for the most up-to-date timeline for application opening and submission. Your school will also have more specific information on getting registered for the ERAS program.
Our deadline for applications is November 1. Addendums to applications will continue to be downloaded. However, complete applications received after the deadline are not guaranteed to be reviewed. We review all applications online, eliminating the need for folders with miscellaneous documents either emailed or mailed in. Three letters of recommendation are required—one of which should be from an Emergency Medicine physician.
Carolinas Medical Center is the flagship of Atrium Health, one of the largest public, nonprofit healthcare systems in the United States. We are an 874-bed hospital and regional Level 1 trauma center with an emergency department that sees more than 120,000 patients annually, including 30,000 in Levine Children's Hospital's emergency department which is housed within the main hospital. There is no need to travel to a remote campus in order to bolster your educational experience. All rotations, faculty offices, didactic conferences and simulation experiences are conveniently located on a single campus.
Educational conferences are provided Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon via a stimulating mix of traditional lecture, small group interactive discussions, hands-on-skills stations, and adult and pediatric M&M conference. Lecture-based learning is supplemented by online multimedia offerings and monthly experience at the Carolinas Simulation Center.
We leverage technology to enhance resident education using audience response systems, virtual teleconferencing, social media and a weekly recap of didactic material. In addition, we use this website to provide full-text access to carefully selected high yield educational materials, organized by rotation. You'll spend your time reading, not figuring out what to read.
